Maths

Because of our maths Curriculum, our children Grow and Flourish as mathematicians through-

Wisdom- understanding important concepts and the ability to make connections within mathematics. Acquiring a broad range of skills in using and applying mathematics. They are able to reason, generalise and make sense of solutions.

Love- demonstrating a commitment and passion for the subject and are able to use a wide range of mathematical vocabulary.

Perseverance- embracing the value of learning from mistakes and false starts. The ability to show initiative and think independently when faced with challenges and when solving problems.

Wisdom-Love-Perseverance

Intent: Considerable importance is given to the teaching of Mathematics. Mathematics can be fun and exciting and we aim to foster an enjoyment where we lay the foundations for children’s understanding of its order and pattern. Children learn how to apply their knowledge and skills to solve problems in everyday life. They are motivated to discover and learn about numbers and operations. They solve numerical problems, including those involving money and measures, and become familiar with the ways in which numerical information is gathered (by counting and measuring) and presented (in graphs, charts and tables). Multiplication tables are taught and regular practice at home is part of our homework policy.

We have a strong belief in the importance of teaching key number skills. Mental Maths and the practical everyday application of Mathematics is a focus for our teaching.

Children’s mathematical ability is assessed daily by teachers to assist with formative assessment and planning for the next step in their learning.

Children complete a mini pre and post assessment task liked to the unit. This enables us to tailor lessons to the individual’s needs; track and measure progress. This also helps parents to know how well their child is doing.

Our school follows the White Rose Maths long term plans for all year groups.
